IMD alerts states, Next 24 hours may bring floods 

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert (Alert) about heavy rain in the next 24 hours. According to IMD, in the coming 24 hours, there is a flood- like situation due to heavy rains in many areas of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, East-Western Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh.

 

The Central Water Commission has also alerted that floods might hit  in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir subdivision. Due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, there was heavy rainfall in Odisha on Wednesday, due to which the possibility of flooding in various areas of the state has increased. Due to rain, low-lying areas of the state have been submerged, road connectivity has been broken and at least two people have died.

 

 

Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said, ‘since Tuesday, all the 30 districts of the state have been receiving rain of different intensity. Heavy rains occurred in 9 districts of the state, resulting in water logging in many low-lying areas. An average of 76.6 mm of rainfall has been recorded till 9 am in the last 24 hours, whereas in nine districts this figure was more than 100 mm. During the same period, the state has received more than 200 mm of rainfall in four blocks’.

 

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have recorded 92 mm and 77 mm of rain respectively. Jena said, ‘many low-lying areas have been submerged in water in districts of Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur in the state. These include paddy fields and roads. Steps are being taken to remove water.
