‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ turns 22: Ajay Devgn says he didn’t think film would create history

Mumbai, June 18- The musical romantic superhit “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” completed 22 years of release on Friday. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ajay Devgn was one of the biggest hits of the year upon release in 1999.

Recalling the film’s release all those year’s ago, Ajay posted to say that he never imagined film would create history.”22 years of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; Salman, Sanjay, Ash & I knew we were making a super-sensitive film. Didn’t think though that it would create history. Humbled. #22YearsOfHumDilDeChukeSanam @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb@beingsalmankhan #SanjayLeelaBhansali @bhansaliproductions,” wrote Ajay, along with a string of pictures from the set of the film.

Ajay collaborates with Bhansali again in the filmmaker’s upcoming release, “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, starring Alia Bhatt in the title role.

About Film-

It was filmed throughout the Gujarat-Rajasthan border region, in addition to Budapest, Hungary, which was used to represent Italy. The film was premiered in the Indian Panorama section at the 1999 International Film Festival of India.[5] It was remade in Bengali as Neel Akasher Chandni in 2009, with Jeet reprising Salman Khan’s role, Jisshu Sengupta reprising Ajay Devgn’s role, and Koel Mallick reprising Aishwarya Rai’s role.

The film was a commercial success and emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year, earning ₹160 million (US$2.2 million). It received predominantly positive reviews from critics. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam received a leading 17 nominations at the 45th Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor (Khan and Devgn), winning 7 awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Bhansali), and Best Actress (Rai) and Best Male Playback (Udit Narayan).
