Honey Trap Gangs On Prowl in Delhi-NCR, Several Rackets Busted

New Delhi :  In Delhi-NCR, the number of cases of traffickers getting into the honey trap and then forcibly demanding money is increasing. During the nationwide lockdown, Delhi and Gurugram police have busted many such active gangs. In a recent case, when a 19-year-old girl came to the Krishna Nagar police station in Shahdara district and filed a sexual harassment case against a local businessman, the police could not find any reason to suspect her. They registered a case and apprehended the accused. However, during the investigation, the police suspected the victim as there were discrepancies in her statements.

It was later revealed during the investigation that the victim was demanding money from the son of the accused. The police team then started working on different aspects, including the possibility of the man being trapped in a honey trap and the possibility of the girl being part of a racket. The police questioned the victim about her family and home. She introduced a woman as her elder sister and gave the police an address.

Shahdara’s DCP Amit Sharma said, “When we inquired further, we came to know that the victim has no siblings. The team was suspicious and the so-called sister was well questioned. During the continuous questioning, she admitted that the victim is not her sister. She further confessed that she along with two other people to raise money, had conspired with a criminal conspiracy to implicate the businessman of Gandhi Nagar in a sexual harassment case.”

As told by police, according to the plan she presented herself as Priya to the businessman and another girl introduced herself as Priya’s sister and the two implicated the businessman after exchanging the number. She demanded Rs 20 lakh to settle the case,” the official said. Two other accomplices were also arrested and admitted that they had registered similar cases against different people in various police stations in Delhi.

In Jagatpuri, a couple were arrested after two complaints of extortion were lodged at the police station in another case. In one case, a man and a 24-year-old woman entered the office of a businessman and demanded Rs 10,000 per month and threatened to implicate him in a false case of sexual exploitation if the demand was not met. The deal was settled at Rs 2,500 per month. But the businessman contacted the police. The same couple then implicated an employee of the stock market and demanded money from him to settle the case. Both the accused Prakash Mandal and the woman have been arrested.

It seems that the racket of Honey Trap has spread in NCR. Not only Delhi, such cases have also been reported in areas adjacent to Gurugram. In June, two men were arrested from Gadoli Khurd village in Sector 10 of Gurugram on charges of trapping several real estate agents in the Honey Trap in Delhi. Those involved in the racket exploit the victim by threatening to damage the reputation of the victim. Many do not even go to the police and forcibly demand money from the Honey Trap gang.
