Gujarat : Wedding ceremonies canceled, families suufer due to Covid-19 restrictions

Rajkot : Just as the wedding season in Saurashtra was about to begin, the government has suddenly ordered that it will only allow 100 people instead of 200. Thousands of middle-class families have had to cancel their weddings following a government order, but the financial situation of thousands of families has become dire as the party plots and hall rent advance payments have not been returned.

In big cities like Rajkot, those who have a wedding in their family, have already booked a party plot or hall four months in advance and paid in advance. Earlier, as 200 people were allowed, the organizers of the wedding booked the hall and party plot. Wedding packages in Rajkot range from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The middle and upper middle class had given lakhs of rupees in advance for the rent of hall-party plots, now the government is giving reason of Corona to reduce the number of people in marriages by 50 percent and many families had to cancel marriages or relocate.

Those who have the occasion at home are busy with last minute police clearance and finding a new place. Some of the organizers who canceled the wedding ceremony said that the managers of the hall-party plot are denying to give the deposit back. On the one hand, the cost of marriage and lakhs of such expenses have put many families in financial trouble. Some who had borrowed money or paid in advance are now worried about how to complete the marriage function.

There is resentment among the people against the rude and bizarre decisions of the government. Where there is no need in last rites on death, the limit of 20 people has been increased to 50 and for marriage, the limit of 200 has been reduced to 100. Even those who want to follow the Corona protocol and get married in presence of 100 people, have to face the hassle of police approval.
