Goons kill policeman in Amravati

A 52-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Amaravati police succumbed to injuries after being assaulted by goons in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceased policeman has been identified as Shantilal Chunnilal Patel.

He was attacked with 6-7 goons with iron rods. Police have arrested three of them.

According to police, a patrolling team led by police sub-inspector Shubhangi Thakre 7-8 persons drinking liquor on the road. When confronted, some of them fled while some were caught and released after sometime after issuing them warnings. However, some of them tried to chase and nab PSI Thakre for allegedly beating them. But they could not find her till early morning.

They caught hold of ASI Patel of Achalpur police station who was returning home and assaulted him with iron rods and fled. Patel was rushed to the district civil hospital but he died during treatment.

After getting information about this incident, the sub-divisional police officer Shirish Rathod, Local Crime Branch inspector Sadanand Mankar and Kiran Wankhede reached the spot and began the investigation. Till now three goons have been arrested in the case, police said.
