Former Chief Minister Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar Passes Away

Latur : Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Dr. Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar (age 91) died at a hospital in Pune this morning. He had successfully defeated Corona at this age as well. He was admitted to the hospital’s Non-Corona ward two days ago. However, he died of kidney failure between 2.30 am on Wednesday. He will be cremated in Nilanga today.

Nilangekar was the Chief Minister of the state from 1985 to 1986. He had earlier held several important portfolios in the state cabinet. He has his wife, three sons, a daughter and grandchildren in the family. Former minister Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar is his grandson.

Shivajirao Nilangekar’s political life has been a struggle. He faced many difficult situations and overcame them successfully. He was known in Maharashtra as a very disciplined person. He was also involved in the country’s freedom struggle from pre-independence times. Although he was hailed by the government as a freedom fighter, he never took advantage of the pensions given to freedom fighters.

The Nilangekar family had expressed confidence that he would win the battle against Corona as he was known as a struggling personality. As he was 91 years old and due to his previous illness, more care was being taken. While undergoing treatment at the hospital, Dr. Nilangekar was reading newspapers and books regularly. He was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney problems and corona, so the doctors kept him in the intensive care unit.

Others were not allowed to come in contact with them as per medical rules and norms. Meanwhile, during the treatment, Nilangekar’s family and his close friend Madhavrao Mali were getting information about his condition from the doctors from time to time. After moving from Latur to Pune, his family believed that he would win the battle against Corona. Because he was mentally strong, this belief of the family came true for some time.

Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar had tested corona positive on July 16 at a private hospital in Latur. The family then shifted Nilangekar to Pune for further treatment. Congress General Secretary Ashok Patil Nilangekar, Dr. Sharad Patil Nilangekar and Vijaykumar Patil Nilangekar were also quarantined in the meantime.

While undergoing treatment, he continued to inquire about the condition of the corona in Nilanga. Even before he left Latur, he had spoken to the authorities on his mobile phone.
