Doctor booked for violating covid norms, harassing municipal workers in Ahmednagar

AHMEDNAGAR: A doctor was booked on the charges of attacking municipality workers and obstructing government’s work, the police said.

According to information, a doctor was stopped by a squad of municipality employees for not wearing mask in public place. However, the doctor did not pay any heed to them and instead started abusing them. The incident took place at Professor Colony Chowk in the town on Friday evening.

On the complaint filed by Municipal Corporation employee Vishnu Suryabhan Deshmukh, the police registered a case against Purushottam Sundardas Ahuja (51), resident of Rasne Nagar.

Amid rising number of coronavirus cases, the municipality has started strict implementation of Covid-19 related protocols. Municipal officers are slapping fine to people for not wearing masks in public places. A similar squad of municipality was deployed in Professor Colony Chowk to ensure proper implementation of protocols. Squad chief Jitendra Sarsar, Devidas Bhimraj Bijja, Amit Sonyabapu Misal, Ambadas Gontyal and Vishnu Deshmukh were present.

According to the police, Vishnu Deshmukh stopped the doctor and his wife who were riding their two-wheeler without wearing a mask. At this time, the doctor tried to run over Vishnu with his bike. The doctor then slapped and beat-up Vishnu, injuring him.  The accused doctor then started to hurl abuses at other team members. The team then handed over the doctor to Tofkhana police station.

Police are further investigating the case.
