Coronavirus will be more dangerous in winter, another wave may come : NITI Aayog

New Delhi : Coronavirus has caused havoc in the country. Every day, thousands of new cases of coronavirus are coming out. However, there has been a decline in the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths for the last three weeks. At the same time, the NITI Aayog says that the second wave of coronavirus infection can also be seen in the winter season.

NITI Aayog member VK Paul said that the figures of coronavirus and death have declined in the last three weeks. This epidemic has spread in many states of the country. However, the possibility of a second wave of corona infection in the winter season cannot be ruled out.

Paul is also the head of an expert panel coordinating efforts to combat the epidemic in the country. He said that once the corona vaccine is available, there will be enough resources to distribute it as well as to make it accessible to the citizens.

Paul told PTI in an interview, “The number of new coronavirus cases and deaths has declined in India in the last three weeks and the epidemic has stabilized in most states. However there are five states (Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal) and 3-4 union territories, where there is still a growing trend.”

According to Paul, India is in a better position now, but the country still has a long way to go because 90 percent of the people are still susceptible to coronavirus infection. Paul said that with the onset of winter, the countries of Europe are witnessing a resurgence of corona cases.

He said, ‘There has been some increase in pollution in the winter season in North India as well as in the festive season, we have to be very careful. The coming months are challenging.’ Paul cautioned against any complacency about the decline in the number of new cases and called for sustained efforts to stop the epidemic.

Regarding storage and distribution of Corona vaccine, he said that India has sufficient cold storage facilities to an extent and it can be extended as needed. Once the vaccine becomes available, there will be sufficient resources to deliver the vaccine and make it accessible to the citizens and in those circumstances there will be no concern about the resources.

Community transmission
At the same time, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan admitted that the corona infection has reached the stage of community transmission. However, Harsh Vardhan clarified that this is not happening across the country but in some districts.
