Coronavirus Cases Increased by 61,000 in a Week in India, Experts Expressed Deep Concern

New Delhi : With the opening of several sectors in the country, cases of infection of COVID-19 are increasing rapidly and in the last one week there has been a surge of around 61,000 cases, after which medical experts feel that if the situation becomes out of control, Lockdown may need to be reinstalled. According to the Union Health Ministry, a record 9851 cases of infection occurred in India on Friday, while 273 people died. After this, the total number of infections in the country has reached 226770, while the death toll has reached 6348. For three consecutive days, a huge increase in cases is being recorded.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has shared some statistics on Twitter according to which most countries like Spain, Germany, Italy and Britain have removed the lockdown and restrictions when their graph of COVID-19 has either flattened or below. In India, the graph of COVID-19 continued to grow even during the lockdown period where the number of infection cases is increasing rapidly in the fourth phase of lockdown which ended on 31 May.

At present, India is the seventh most affected country in the world in terms of number of infections. Before that comes America, Brazil, Russia, Britain, Spain and Italy. Dr. Vikas Maurya, director of the Lung Disease Department at Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, said, “When the lockdown is opened in phases the cases will increase. Lockdown is basically used to deal with epidemics and to prevent outbreaks.”

He said, “When the lockdown is opened in phases, the cases will increase, but the important thing is to keep in mind that the situation is not uncontrollable and if it happens, the lockdown will have to be repeated.” It is necessary to ensure that people continue to follow lockdown and implement these four important principles that – if not necessary, they will not go out, will always wear masks, will keep social distance and wash hands.

He said, “As of now the situation is not to impose a lockdown again, but if the situation becomes uncontrollable, then it may have to be implemented again.” Dr. Kumar, associated with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, also emphasized that it is a hasty decision to allow the opening of shrines and malls because it would be very difficult to ensure that people do not violate the rules. Dr. Vivek Nangia, Director of Lung Disease Department of Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, also said that the rapid increase in cases is worrisome. He said that it is too early to open malls and shrines as people will start accumulating and things will get out of control.
