Corona cases rising in Mumbai, Record single day spike after 40 days

New Delhi : The number of coronavirus cases has been steadily increasing in Mumbai, Maharashtra. On Wednesday, the city saw the highest number of cases reported in a single day since January 7. On Wednesday, 40 days later, 721 new cases were registered in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had also previously expressed his concern about the severe coronavirus situation in the state. He had said that citizens have become careless and are not following the Covid security protocol. The mayor of Mumbai warned of another lockdown in the city citing the same reasons.

The total number of cases now stands at 315,751, while the number of active cases here is 5,943. Meanwhile, the doubling rate of Covid-19 cases in the city has declined.

The average growth rate of the virus in the city is 0.16 percent. Since the beginning of this week, Mumbai reported fewer than 500 coronavirus cases per day. The city saw 493 new cases on Monday and 461 new cases were registered on Tuesday.

According to BMC data, as of February 16, 2020, the city has a total of 61 active areas, most of which include N Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar and Pantnagar wards and Bhandup, Powal, Kanjurmarg in ward S.

Mulund in Ward T has the most sealed buildings to prevent the spread of coronavirus. 171 buildings in Mulund have been sealed to prevent the spread of the disease.

The BMC on Wednesday reported an incident of gross negligence towards the Covid protocol. Four quarantine passengers ran away from a quarantine hotel in Santacruz. This was reported by Mayor Kishori Pednekar and Deputy Mayor Suhas Wadkar.
