Pune: 19-year-old sentenced to 10 years of jail for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy
Pune: A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years of hard labor and fined Rs 20,500 for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy. Special Judge AV Rotte passed the verdict.
The convict was identified as Abdul Rehman Yunus Syed (19), resident of Pimpri. The victim’s grandfather had lodged a complaint with Pimpri police. Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Sunil Hande oversaw the proceedings. They examined five witnesses.
The incident took place on February 3, 2013 at around 1 pm in the limits of Pimpri Police Station. Syed took the victim boy under the pretext to buy him sandals. The victim confessed that he took him inside a room in the shop and sexually assaulted him. Adv Sunil Hande representing the victim, demanded for serious punishment according to the heinous crime.
Accordingly, he was sentenced to 10 years of hard labour and fined Rs 10,000 under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO Act), 10 years hard labor and a fine of Rs 10,000 under IPC section 377, and six months hard labor and a fine of Rs 500 under section 342. All punishments are to be inflicted together.
Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two months’ imprisonment. If the fine is paid, the amount should be paid to the victim child as compensation, the court said in the order.
