5-time CM Lal Thanhawla loses both seats

 

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- The counting of votes the for all the 40 seats of Mizoram assembly has done. This vote count began at 7 am for which people were actually waiting and excited about.

In Mizoram, Mizo National Front’s  (MNF) candidates are ahead in total 25 constituencies. Whereas, Congress candidates are ahead in 10 constituencies. Out of total 40 seats, 21 seats need to get majority here and IMF is already ahead in 25 seats, MNF has already crossed required number for majority.

There is currently a Congress government in Mizoram. Congress’s P Lal Thanhawla was the Mizoram’s Chief Minister since 2008. There have been only two chief ministers in Mizoram in the last 30 years.

Mizoram has registered 75 percent polling this time. To get majority in the state, it is necessary to get 21 seats. A total 209 candidates were contesting elections in Mizoram.

At present, the Congress has 34 MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly) in Mizoram. Exit poll said that any party will not get majority in state, which is now being proved wrong. Mizoram is the only state in the Northeast where the Congress government is in power.

Congress fought tooth and nail to win from Mizoram. As it was the last state in Northeast India, where Congress government was in power.

This was the battle between following  main political parties- Mizo National Front, Congress, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mizoram.

5-time CM Lal Thanhawla loses both seats:

Lal Thanwala who was CM of Mizoram for 5-times, and he was contesting election from two constituencies, one of his home turf Serchhip and another one is Champhai South. But he lost both the seats. He defeated by MNF’s TJ Lalnuntluanga by 856 votes from Champhai South seat. And Serchhip was grabbed by Zoram People’s Movement’s (ZPM) chief candidate Lalduhoma.

The Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla’s tenure is ends on December 15.
