‘Complete Lockdown’ In Guwahati & Kamrup From Sunday In View of Hike in Corona Cases, Announced by Assam Govt.

Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Himanta Visw Sharma said on Friday that the state government has decided to implement the entire lockdown from midnight on June 28 in the entire Kamrup metropolitan district, including Guwahati, in view of rising cases of coronavirus. This lockdown will continue for the next 14 days. During this period, medical stores and other essential goods shops will remain open in the district.

Sharma said that the weekly lockdown would continue in the urban areas of Assam on Saturday and Sunday. He said that weekly lockdown will be imposed in the areas under the Municipal Committee and Municipalities. Sharma said that this weekly lockdown will continue till further orders.

On Thursday, deputy health minister Pijush Hazarika indicated that the state government could impose a complete lockdown in Guwahati if people did not strictly follow the guidelines issued for COVID-19 and if things go out of hand.
