CM Shinde issues orders to form Uruli Devachi-Phursungi municipality within next 15 days; ordinance to exclude both villages from PMC
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Uruli Devachi-Fursungi Nagar Palika | A major decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding Uruli Devachi and Phursungi villages being included in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). CM Shinde ordered the exclusion of these two villages from the PMC and formed a combined municipality of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar announced after the meeting that the technical order in this regard will be issued in the next two weeks.
The 11 villages were merged with the PMC in 2017. Uruli Devachi and Phursungi were among them. The development plan work of 11 villages including these villages is being done by the PMC and has reached the final stage. Also, three TP schemes are being implemented in these villages on behalf of the PMC. Property tax was being recovered by the PMc in the two villages. There were complaints from local citizens that the villages were still not provided with basic infrastructure and yet taxes were levied.
After the change in the ruling party, former minister Vijay Shivtare had demanded that the CM should make an independent civic body for the villages involved as the municipality was not providing facilities. The complaint was mainly about property tax. Against this backdrop, Shinde held a meeting in Mumbai.
In this meeting, it was decided to exclude both the villages of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi from the PMC. Both the villages have a population of around one-and-a-half to two lakhs and are developing rapidly. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar announced that Chief Minister Shinde ordered the formation of a new municipality of these two villages together.
In this meeting, along with former minister Vijay Shivtare, the Upper Secretary of Urban Development Department, Collector Rajesh Deshmukh, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Head of Property Tax Department Ajit Deshmukh were present.
