Chatushrungi police recovers stolen ornaments worth Rs 13.42 lakhs

Officials from Chatushrungi police station have arrested an externed goon and solved 11 burglary cases by recovering ornaments worth Rs 13.42 lakhs from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jaywant alias Jaidya Govardhan Gaikwad (32), a native of Aundh, who lived in Katvi village in Maval taluka.

The detection branch team was patrolling in Pashan area when the spotted Gaikwad on August 6. The accused who was not supposed come to Pune as he was externed, started fleeing after policemen approached him. He was caught after a brief chase. A case was registered against him for offence under section 142 (penalty for entering without permission area from which a person is directed to remove himself ) of the Bombay Police Act.

During interrogation the accused confessed to his involvement in burglary cases and police recovered Rs 64,000 cash, 422 gram gold ornaments, 500 gram silver ornaments, screw driver, totally worth Rs 13.42 lakhs from his possession.

Assistant Police Inspector Sandesh Kenjale and PSI Prem Waghmore are further investigating the case.

Additional CP (North region) Sunil Phulari, DCP (Zone 3) Mangesh Shinde, ACP (Chatushrungi division) Kalyanrao Vidhate supervised the investigation team which included senior police inspector Dayanand Dhome, Police Inspector (crime) Vaishali Galande, and policemen Baban Gund, Balasaheb Gaikwad, Maruti Pardhi, Saras Salvi, Ajay Gaikwad, Santosh Jadhav, Mahesh Bamgude, Sanjay Wagh, Dada Kale, Dnyaneshwar Mule, Amar Shaikh, Tejas Chopde, and Amit Gadre.
