Centre gives 27 per cent reservation in military schools for OBCs

New Delhi : From the 2021-22 academic session, 27 per cent reservation for OBCs will be implemented in 31 military schools across the country, the defense ministry said on Friday. Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar said this on Twitter yesterday. The Army is the only organization where reservations do not apply. 27 per cent reservation in Sainik School means indirect reservation for future officers. There was a discussion that if the 10% financial reservation came to the center, whether it would be implemented in the army or not. But even then, the army had made it clear that it would not enforce it.

At present, 67 percent of military school seats are for children in the state or Union Territory where the school is located, while 33 per cent are for children in other states. Now these two categories will have quotas like General, SC-ST, OBC. Yesterday, when Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar made the announcement on Twitter, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was busy campaigning in Bihar for the Assembly elections.

27 per cent seats for OBCs in military schools will be in addition to the existing quota. The criteria for admission in educational institutions are as per the rules of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. An order has been issued on October 13 to all school principals regarding the quota, officials said.

Some in the defense sector have criticized the new decision, saying it would sow the seeds of racism, while some officials said it was a good move.
