Car thief who learnt from YouTube videos arrested by Crime Branch

A 20-year-old youth has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Pune city police for allegedly learning theft tactics on YouTube, and the stealing a car from Kolhapur. Cops have seized one car and two SUVs besides five mobile phones from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Revan Sontakke, a resident of Hadapsar. A team led by Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan from the Anti-Organised Crime Cell (North region) nabbed him on Mula Road in Khadki on Wednesday.

According to police, Sontakke had learnt stealing tactics from YouTube videos and had stolen the vehicles from garages in Kolhapur and Sangli. When people used to give their vehicles for repair or servicing, the mechanic used to keep the keys in cupboard. He used to take the keys under pretext of repairing the vehicles, then used to decamp at night with the vehicles.

He used to drive the vehicles and abandon them randomly. He had left Skoda in Shirur after accident. He was using the Duster car when caught by police.

Earlier he had stolen several phones of people at the bus stand in Shivajinagar. He was earlier caught by police in August 2017.

This action was taken under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of police (crime) Shirish Deshpande, Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime 2) Bhanupratap Barge, Inspector Anjum Bagwan, Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Pawar, and policemen Narendra Sonawane, Bhalchandra Borkar and other staffs.
