British woman raped at Canacona

Canacona: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- In an unwelcoming sign for the tourism season, a 48-year-old British woman was raped by an unknown person near BSNL Office at Canacona.

“A 48-year-old woman has complained to the police that while she was walking from local Railway Station to the beach during wee hours of Thursday (today), an unknown person raped her by pushing her at the roadside in the paddy fields,” said Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai.

He said that woman has also complained that the accused after raping her ran away with her belongings.

He said that the incident happened around 4 a.m. when the victim who had gone to catch a railway from Canacona to Thivim Station was returning back as train had delayed arrival.

“The accused who saw her walking alone pushed her at the roadside paddy field near BSNL office and then hurt her eyes, blinding her for few minutes before raping her,” he said quoting the complaint.

The accused also ran away with three bags of the victim after raping her, he said.

The officer said that the search is on to trace the accused while several suspects are being rounded up from the area.

Prabhudesai said that the woman has been regular visitor to Goa for last more than 10 years.
