Bombay HC restrains Police to not arrest Param Bir Singh till May 23

Mumbai : Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has received a major relief from the Bombay High Court in a case registered under the SC-ST Act. The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the police not to arrest Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, till May 23, in a case registered under the SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had filed a petition in the court requesting the cancellation of the FIR lodged against him and a CBI inquiry into the case. A division bench of justices SJ Kathavala and Justice SP Tawde heard the petition late on Friday night.

Param Bir Singh’s advocate argued that the former police commissioner had filed corruption charges against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, which led to an FIR against him, but the government said the crime was exposed in the complaint, due to which an FIR was registered. However, the bench questioned the timing of filing the FIR.

The bench adjourned the hearing till Monday and directed the police not to arrest Param Bir Singh in the case till then. Earlier, Mumbai Police Inspector Bhimrao Ghadge, while filing an affidavit in the Bombay High Court on Thursday, said that an FIR was lodged against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh under the Atrocities Act, not to create pressure to withdraw the complaint against Anil Dekhmukh.
