Baner-based softpro duped of Rs 1.5 lakh on the pretext of activating new credit card

PUNE : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Cyber Crime News | A software engineer was duped of Rs 1.5 lakh on the pretext of activating his new State Bank of India (SBI) credit card. An unidentified cybercriminal took the OTP for the purpose and cheated him. (Pune Cyber Crime News)

 

A 41-year-old man lodged a complaint at the Chatuhshrungi police station in this regard. According to the police, the complainant works as a human resource professional in an IT company. His SBI credit card was to expire. Hence, a new credit card was delivered to his residential address. He received a call at his workplace. The caller told him that he was speaking from the SBI Card credit division. He sought the OTP received on his mobile phone to activate the new credit card. The complainant thought he was a bank employee. Later, Rs 45,057, Rs 46,057 and Rs 7,164 were withdrawn from his account, totalling over Rs 1.44 lakh.

 

The complainant checked on the bank website that the transaction OTPs were sent to the fraudster’s mobile phone. The cybercriminal took the access of the credit card using the new credit card activation OTP.
