Arnab Goswami case verdict on November 23

Raigad : The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Arnab Gaeswami. Defendants’ attorneys on Thursday asked the court not to rule on Goswami’s District Sessions Court’s review application and other defendants’ bail applications until they receive a clear copy of the Supreme Court’s decision. Accordingly, the court has reserved the verdict and given a date of November 23, informed District Government Advocate Adv. Bhushan Salvi.

Firaz Sheikh and Nitesh Sarda, along with Arnab Goswami, editor of Republic India News Channel, were arrested by Raigad police on November 4 in connection with the suicide of architect Anvay Naik. Alibag’s chief magistrate had remanded the accused in custody for 14 days. The Raigad Police and the government had taken the matter to the District Sessions Court.

The government has argued that the accused should be sent in police custody and he should not be granted bail. Goswami then knocked on the High Court’s door, but he couldn’t get relief from there. Goswami ran for direct bail in the Supreme Court. Goswami has withdrawn his bail application filed in the District Sessions Court, while Firaj Sheikh and Nitesh Sarda have upheld their bail application. A hearing will be held on November 23.
