The Congress and National Congress Party  (NCP) government could have given reservation to the Maratha community. However, the court cancelled it. Now, there is BJP government in the state and at the centre. Therefore, the government should give reservations to the Maratha community by changing the Constitution, I will speak to the opposition and my party will give full support, Sharad Pawar said in Kolhapur. Also, we have given reservation in 15 years, talking about what we did in 15 years, Pawar said.

NCP Chief MP Sharad Pawar attacked Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a function at Kolhapur on the issue of recording. Pawar asked to present the recording instead.

Commenting on Maratha reservation, Pawar also targeted the Fadnavis government. He said, “Congress and NCP government had decided to give reservation in past but by the time the decision was cancelled in court, the code of conduct took place.”

Thereafter, BJP came to power. BJP government had promised that reservation would be given to Dhangar and Maratha community. But the government failed to fulfil their words which brought youngsters to protest. There is BJP Government ruling in state and center, they should make changes in constitution immediately and pass a notice on Maratha Reservation, Pawar said.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar did not forget to target Chandrakant Patil in Kolhapur. Sharad Pawar said, “I contested 14 times, Chandrakant Patil should also be elected by the people. Later Pawar remembers the elections and makes such statements.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called an all-party meeting on Saturday to discuss reservation demanded by the Marathas in jobs and educational institutes. This comes after an agitation by the community members sparked violence in parts of the state. “The purpose of the meeting is to get the leaders of Opposition on board to find an amicable way out of the problem. Also, probable formulas to diffuse the unrest will be discussed,” said a source in the government. The meeting will take place at the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai.
