Ambulance knocks down 2 men on bypass, 1 dead

Pune: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – In a tragic incident, two men who were riding a motorcycle were hit by a truck on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, and while they were getting up, a speeding ambulance knocked them down. One of the died and while another one is undergoing treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Anand Prakash Vyas (34) of Fadtare chawl in Warje. The injured man Raghunath Gorakh Bhondve (38), also from the same locality, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Police Naik Santosh Takle has lodged an FIR in this regard with Sinhgad road police station.

According to police, the incident took place around 9.45 pm opposite Hotel Sandesh on the Mumbai – Bengaluru highway on Thursday night. After making inquiries with the local people, the cops arrived at the conclusion that the two persons were riding bike towards Mumbai when an unidentified truck hit them. The duo fell down on the road and was getting up when the ambulance came from behind and hit them again. The two persons were rushed to the hospital, where Vyas succumbed to his injuries.

Police have identified the ambulance driver as Santosh Shankar Vinchurkar of Nasrapr. Now the search is on for the truck driver.

Police have charged the accused persons for offenses under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (endangering the safety of others) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
