AICTE gives approval to five courses of Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India

Npnews24 Online Pune: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has granted approval to five courses of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) under AICTE’s newly created ‘Applied Arts and Crafts’ category. FTII has now become the first and only Institute in this category in the country to receive such recognition.

Of the five courses, four are from the Television wing which are Direction, Electronic Cinematography, Video Editing, Sound Recording and TV Engineering. The fifth one is Feature Film Screenplay Writing in Film wing.

A list of Institutions and approved courses published by AICTE on Saturday, May 11 under its newly-constituted category pertaining to Institutes offering courses in applied arts,crafts and design, includes FTII and all five of its one-year post-graduate (PG) certificate courses.

“This is as important a watershed event as Master’s degree equivalence was granted to FTII’s six PG Diploma film wing courses by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in January 2017. With this, all 11 FTII courses now stand approved by either AIU or AICTE,” said Chairman of FTII Governing Council Brijendra Pal Singh.

Owing to the approval that will be coming into effect from the academic year 2019-20, Director of FTII Bhupendra Kainthola expressed that the credibility and attraction of the TV courses at the Institute will increase. Traditionally, it’s the film wing specialisations that have been receiving major attention of the students.

Kainthola said, “In recent years FTII’s television courses have been in the limelight winning several National awards and even international honours. Screen writers from FTII are already making their mark in the entertainment industry, and the AICTE approval will add further to the value of the courses and their takers.”
