Accumulation of water on roads: Immediate steps will be taken with MahaMetro’s help, says Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar

A meeting has been organised with MahaMetro officials and works will be undertaken to ensure that accumulated water is drained out, said Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar. (PMC On Metro Route Pune)
The work of the Metro has been going on since few years. On JM Road, water is getting accumulated since two years due to the Metro work. It was found that the pipelines through which water flows into the river have been blocked due to Metro work. Some repairs have been carried out and two new pipelines will be placed. On Karve Road, in Vanaz and SNDT areas, because of the divider under the Metro bridge, obstructions have been created in the flow of water. Although, the problem is existence, the Metro administration has not taken any measures so far. Hence, due to unseasonal rains, the roads have turned into rivers on at least two occasions.
When asked about these problems, Vikram Kumar said, “A meeting with MahaMetro officials will be held on Tuesday. The Metro administration should take up works to ensure that the water is drained. If MahaMetro is unable to undertake these works, then PMC will do it and charges will be collected from MahaMetro.
On Maan-Mhalunge to Shivaji Nagar Metro route, the Ganeshkhind Road is going to be widened. The process of acquiring land at nine places is going on and the work will be started soon. Vikram Kumar said that unless the road is widened, there will not be sufficient space for the ramp of the double decker flyover being built near the SPPU and the road.
