A year of Sabyasachi

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE: TANUSHREE PODDAR:          This year was all about ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. From designing wedding lehengas for Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Isha Ambani, Saina Nehwal, Shweta Basu to styling them and the other stars, the celebrated designer’s creations have become identical with wedding couture. As he ends the year on a high note, let us look back at his best designs.

He dressed up Karishma Kapoor in embroidered georgette saree with Tilla work paired with an organdie blouse with fine gilt work.

Alia Bhatt was seen wearing ruby silk mashru kurta embroidered with Tilla work paired with a gharara and dupatta for a film festival and previously was spotted in a lemony lehenga for an Ambani party.

New-bee Sara Ali Khan was also spotted wearing his Navratan Lehenga with black Akashtara dupatta which was highlighted with zardozi, crystals pearls over a hand-painted underskirt for her movie promotion.

Sabyasachi made sure to dazzle his favorite muses, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh head to toe. Even both side of the family were seen wearing Sabyasachi couture throughout the wedding and other wedding rituals. Where for the D-day and Bengaluru reception Deepika chose a traditional look, on the other side for post-wedding celebration she chose floral lehenga out of the box. Sabyasachi also gifted her a customized dupatta written “Swabhagyavati Bhava.”

Another most talked about wedding of the season was Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. Where for the Hindu wedding, Priyank chose Kanaauj-Rose lehenga. Her brothers too wore sherwani from Sabyasachi’s collection. From Nick’s side, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were seen wearing Sabyasachi collection. Priyanka also chose brocade corset with matching lehenga for her Mumbai reception. For the same reception, Deepika wore zardozi lehenga, entirely hand embellished with burnt Salma, Sitara, and zardozi on tea-stained antique gold tissue whereby, Anushka Sharma wore a cocktail saree with French knots with precious stones embroidered stones.

Coming to the majestic wedding of the year, Isha Ambani wore hand-printed Tilla work lehenga with antique bandhej dupatta with syndicate diamonds and Zambian emerald jewelry for her Graha Shanti Pooja. For her reception, Isha wore Sabyasachi’s silver Salma-Sitara Dabka and Bullin works with ethnic diamond cut jewelry.

Even Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap were part of the Sabyasachi bride and groom. Saina was seen wearing rich indigo velvet lehenga, intricately embroidered with zardozi, applique, pearls, and crystal for her reception. Parupalli also complimented Saina with indigo sherwani in hand-dye Murshidabad silk with crafted Bengal tiger buttons.

For Elle December edition, Oprah Winfrey wore velvet Kaftans with Sabyasachi jewelry for the cover.

Previously, Anushka Sharma, Asin, Amrita Puri, Bipasha Basu, Soha Ali Khan, Sagarika Ghatge, Vidya Balan, Amna Shariff, Samantha Akkineni and Pia Sodhi embraced Sabyasachi’s collection.

Sabyasachi also gave various brides their dream lehenga this year making us want more of Sabyasachi.
