5 killed, 2 injured in accident on Expressway

LONAVLA: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – In major accident, five persons were killed while two others sustained severe injuries, when a truck crossed over the divider of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and hit three cars coming from Mumbai on Friday morning. One of the car fell down in 100 feet deep gorge in the Borghat.

According to police, the accident took place around 3.30 pm. A truck carrying cement bags was heading towards Mumbai from Pune, when the driver lost control and the truck crossed over the divider. The truck hit three cars coming from opposite direction. Four persons died on the spot, while the fifth succumbed to inuries during treatment.

Due to the collision, the cement bags fell down on the road due to which there was heavy traffic jam on the lane towards Pune.

Police officials from Khopoli,Borghat, as well as staffs of IRB, Delta Force also reached the spot soon and began the rescue operation.
