3.9 magnitude of earthquake hits Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: A 3.9 magnitude of earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir on Friday at around 4:55 am. The tremors were felt 88 km of Katra, said National Center for Seismology. Due to the low intensity of the earthquake, there were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

The latest quake comes just hours after a medium-intensity earthquake of magnitude 4.1 jolted J-K at 6:38 pm on Thursday. On June 27, a mild-intensity earthquake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale had hit Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier two earthquakes hit Assam within a span of few hours on July 16, tremors of which were also felt in the state of Meghalaya. Then too there was no report of any damage.

The first quake measuring 4.1 on Ricther scale magnitude had its epicentre in Karimganj in Barak valley and was recorded 18 km below the ground. The second earthquake was recorded at 1:09 pm in Kokrajhar area in western Assam. It was of 2.6 magnitude.
