23 Killed As a Boat Sinks in Buriganga River, Rescue Operation Continues

Dhaka: At least 23 people were killed as a boat sink in Bangladesh’s Buriganga river today. The boat had collided with another ship, after which the accident occurred. Officials gave this information.

A media house quoted fire service control room officer Rozina Islam as saying that the incident took place near Shyambazar in Dhaka around 9.30 am.

The dead included three children and six women, according to Rozina. Fire service divers reached the spot and launched the rescue operation with the help of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Coast Guard.

MD Selim, Transport Inspector, BIWTA, said the boat was heading towards Sadarghat from Morning Bird Munshiganj when it collided with a Moyuri-2 coming from Chandpur. More than 50 people were on board.
