If helmet without ISI mark is used or sold, then the person will face two years of imprisonment or fine of two lakh rupees. The new rule will be implemented within next 60 days.

Under the Road Safety Program, the Department of Traffic has always awakened the use of helmets. Often the use of helmets has been forced, however, it is found that many riders have not been serious about the security.

To avoid penalties, the poor-quality helmets are purchased and used. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has noted that these types of helmet are of no use as there is no protection if any accident occurs.

In this, penal offense and two years of imprisonment or two lakh rupees will be imposed. If the offence is committed again then the provision has been made and the fine will be increased.

In India, many people die to road accidents and helmets without ISI marks provide no protection. Helmets with ISI marks provide the protection to two wheelers. However, because the price is high and there is no information about the quality, two-wheelers use a lighter quality helmet.

Rajeev Kapoor, two-wheeler helmet producer association said, “People don’t understand the importance of helmets, and end up riding without it. While some uses helmet but many times customers are unaware about the quality of helmet and purchases the low quality of helmet due to low cost but however this leads to death in accident as the helmet is of low quality.”

According to the government data, 1.5 lakh people die every year in road accident, among which most of these are two-wheeler riders. Banned on low quality of helmets can save lakhs of people. It will also increase the attitude of people to use quality products.
