However many people have termed this action as ‘Tughlaqi’.

On January 5, the Amravati unit of the ACB had arrested LCB inspector Mukund Kulkarni, assistant police inspector Sandeep Chavan and police naik Sunil Botre

after they were caught red-handed while accepting Rs5 lakh bribe at the Chintamani petrol pump on Yavatmal-Darwha road.

Some people had now organised a program near the Tehsil office to celebrate these arrests and they were distributing sweets. After getting information about the program, police reached there and nabbed five of them.

What is the ACB case ?

Last year in September, Yavatmal police had busted illicit manufacturing and marketing of bogus pesticides, seeds and fertilizers by the proprietors of Kalamb-based Gurudev Ginning and Pressing Factory. Police had seized bogus pesticides worth Rs 62 lakhs. The masterminds Sanjay Kawale and Chandrashekhar Thotte were arrested in the case. Later police seized bogus goods worth over Rs two crore from various godowns of the duo.

The LCB filed a charge sheet in the court. The trio had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakhs bribe to weaken the case. API Chavan had allegedly promised to reduce the seriousness of the crime by adding non-serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The aggrieved persons approached the ACB, Amravati, who made three consecutive attempts to trap the policemen but failed. On January 5, the team led laid a trap and Botre was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5 lakh cash from the complainant on behalf of his boss Kulkarni.
