Women’s Day 2021: Celebrate the spirit of womanhood with these female-centric super hit Bollywood films

In today’s world women have proved their mettle in every sphere across the world. Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day is observed to celebrate womanhood. For decades the entertainment industry has played its part in highlighting gender-related issues that usually swept under the carpet.

Here is a list of some female-centric super hit Bollywood films

Thappad – Through this film, many questions have been raised about female dignity and malevolent thinking. The movie was released last year.  And is directed by Abhinav Sinha.

Taapsee Pannu played the character of a housewife, who’s been slapped by her husband and that   one incident changed everything about their relationship and made her independent.

 

 MOM-. Late actress, Sridevi’s played the lead in this film.  The film was released in the year 2017.  It is a story of a woman who takes her revenge herself. There are many shortcomings in our law, by taking advantage of these shortcomings many, criminals escape from punishment. The same happens with Sridevi’s stepdaughter, who was rapped. Her stepmother seeks justice and she herself takes revenge to teach the perpetrators a lesson.

 

Parched – Produced by Ajay Devgan and associates, ‘Parched’ is a film that works to open the bandage on the eyes of our society.  This film showcase the condition of women in far-flung areas of our country, People misunderstood that too much female empowerment is happening but in reality, it’s not.

 

Young Indian Gods -Director Pan Nalini’s film ‘Young Indian Gods’ is a film in which today’s woman talks about her challenges and solutions. The film is a story of 5 girlfriends. The story of the film is based on the backdrop of Goa. It was released in the year 2015.

 

Kahaani – Sujoy Ghosh’s film ‘Kahaani’ was released in the year 2012. The film is based on the story of a powerful woman who not only takes revenge on her husband’s death with great courage and understanding, but also completes the filth spread in the system and the unfinished work of her husband. Vidya Balan received a lot of love from the audience for this film.

 

Queen- Starring Kangna Ranaut in the lead, the movie proves that a woman can do anything with or without a man. Kangana portrays the role of Rani, who is devastated after her fiance (played by Rajkummar Rao) leaves her just before the wedding. Undeterred, she decides to go on their honeymoon alone where she gets pulled out of her comfort zone and rediscovers herself.

 English Vinglish- Helmed by Gauri Shinde, the movie was released in 2012 and starred late actor Sridevi in the lead role. The story of the film revolved around how an Indian housewife endures small slights from her well-educated daughter and husband because of her inability to speak English. Luck holds her when she travels abroad and joins an English learning class.

Neerja– Based on a true story, bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor played  role of Neerja, who was a flight attendant, who boarded Pan Am flight 73 in 1986. The film tells the story of Neerja and what happens when the flight is hijacked by terrorists. In the heart-touching biopic, Neerja risks her life to stall the terrorists from attacking the passengers on board
