Woman murdered by in-laws for not getting ‘Mangalsutra’ given by first husband

In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old woman was tortured which resulted in her death, as she was unable to get the ‘Mangalsutra’ given by her first husband. Now, a case of murder has been registered against her second husband, brother-in-law- and father-in-law. The incident took place in Chincholi, Dehuroad.

Police have identified the deceased as Monika Somnath Jadhav, a resident of Chincholi in Dehugaon. The case has been registered against her husband Somnath Narayan Jadhav, mother-in-law Laxmibai Narayan Jadhav, father-in-law Narayan Tukaram Jadhav, brother-in-law Ganesh Narayan Jadhav. Police have already arrested her father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Monika’s mother Shanta Ramesh Powar (aged 51, the resident of Warje Malwadi) has lodged a complaint against them with Dehuroad Police Station, under Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate.

According to police, Monika had a second marriage with Somnath. The husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law were giving physical and psychological trouble to Monika to bring the first husband’s manglasutra from her mother’s place. The had badly beaten up and also gave her branding marks. As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the hospital. She died during treatment on Monday. An autopsy report revealed that she died due to torture, a murder case has been registered. Dehuroad police are investigating further.
