Woman, her grandson killed in accident on Kharadi Bypass road

In a tragic incident, a 61-year-old woman and her grandson died, while another person sustained severe injuries after speeding car hit them on Kharadi Bypass road on Wednesday night. The car had hit four vehicles.

Police said that the accident took place around 8.30 pm opposite Hotel Radisson. The deceased persons have been identfied as Shantabai Sahebrao Sonawane and Nayan Ramesh Mokale (11, resident of Satavavasti, Kharadi). One Mahendra Lokhande is injured, police said.

Police officials said that the driver has fled and the police has registered a case against him after the accident.

According to police, there was Ganpati immersion procession was going. A Honda City car was going to Kharadi via the Radisson Hotel, when the driver lost control over the wheels and the car went on hitting four vehicles besides knocking down these three persons who were standing on the road side. 7

They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Shantabai and her grandson Nayan succumbed to their injuries around midnight.

After the accident, the driver of the car fled leaving the car there as people started gathering at the accident spot. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Khadki division) Ganesh Gawde, Senior Police Inspector of Chandan Nagar Police Station Rajendra Mulik and his colleagues visited the place and pacified the angry crowd of people. Chandan Nagar police are investigating further.
