WhatsApp to launch in-app banner to explain privacy policy

New Delhi : Following the backlash for its Privacy policy, WhatsApp, in a blog post has announced that it will display an in-app banner. The banner promises to lead you to the company’s post that talks about/explains the new privacy policy. The post will address user concerns on what data it shares with its parent company, Facebook.

“Starting in a few weeks, some people will see a small banner that will invite them to check out these policies again. People prefer this approach over the full screen alert we previously provided,” noted WhatsApp in a statement. It will also display messages in the Status section of the app which will declare the firm’s continued commitment to privacy and that conversations will remain end-to-end encrypted.

Earlier this year, the app began sending full-screen notifications to users alerting them they needed to review and agree to new terms of service and privacy policy in order to continue using the platform, which combined with references to parent company Facebook, sparked confusion and concern among some users over possible increased data sharing.

So, in these new banners, WhatsApp again clarifies that the changes in its new policy are primarily directed at some of the optional business features. You may choose not to use them. The company stresses the fact that the new policy will not affect user privacy. And, the company will not be sharing users’ private conversations with Facebook.
