What is the controversy around Naseeruddin Shah ?

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE : Being out spoken as he is, veternan actor Naseeruddin Shah took over twitter five days back expressing his anger over the recent incidents of lynching in the country in the name of cow vigilantism and said that he was worried about the safety of his children in “today’s India”, whereas, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party accused Shah of “fear-mongering” and “hypocrisy”

He firstly targeted Virat Kohli saying “Virat K is not only the world’s best batsman but also the world’s worst behaved player. His cricketing brilliance pales beside his arrogance and bad manners. And I have no intention of leaving the country by the way”

For which Virat’s fans and many celebrities came forward and criticized him.

Responding to that, Kohli said “Okay, I don’t think you should live in India then… you should go and live somewhere else no. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”

Shah even stated his view on how social media is giving more importance to the death of cows than humans in India. Shah remarked “the death of a cow is being given more importance than the killing of a policeman” and that he feels “anxious” for his children looking at the current state of affairs.

On that wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt took on twitter to hit out Shah saying that he should not call himself a patriot after showing pity for terrorism as well as indicate that his comment on the Bulandshahr violence constituted as selective outrage. He tweeted “All of us regret the death of people in Bulandshahr. But a lot of riots have happened before this and innocent people have lost their lives – but you (Naseeruddin Shah) didn’t feel scared then. This makes me understand what side you are on. Please don’t call yourself a patriot after showing pity on terrorism.”

Justifying his perspective, Shah replied “What I said earlier was as a worried Indian. What did I say this time that I am being termed as a traitor? I am expressing concerns about the country I love, the country that is my home. How is that a crime?”

According to Shah, poison has already spread. “It will be very difficult to capture this jinni back into the bottle again. There is complete impunity for those who take law into their own hands. In many areas, we are witnessing that the death of a cow is more significant than that of a police officer.”

In a recent interview, Shah said “I think Mr Khan should be walking the talk in his own country instead of commenting on issues that don’t concern him. We have been a democracy for 70 years and we know how to look after ourselves.”

Naseeruddin Shah, “What I said earlier was as a worried Indian. What did I say this time that I am being termed as a traitor? I am expressing concerns about the country I love, the country that is my home. How is that a crime?”

His fellow co-star, Anupam Kher has targeted Shah and twitted, “There’s so much freedom in the country that you can abuse the army, badmouth the air chief and pelt stones at the soldiers. How much more freedom do you need in a country? He said what he felt like, it doesn’t mean it’s the truth.”
