Uttarakhand Glacier Burst : 14 bodies recovered from different places so far, rescue operations under way

Dehradun : A glacial lake burst, a cloud burst or an avalanche, the impact of climate change or “development” – scientists are not sure what triggered the sudden surge of water near Chamoli in Uttarakhand Sunday morning that briefly raised fears of a repeat of the 2013 disaster in the state.

Till now 14 dead bodies have been recovered in the devastation caused by the bursting of the glacier in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. However, many people are still feared trapped under the debris. Nearly 170 people have been missing since the devastation.
Tapovan’s power project has been destroyed in this incident. Yesterday, the ITBP soldiers evacuated 12 people trapped in the tunnel. At the same time, about 30 people are still feared trapped in the second tunnel. Presently, rescue operations are going on at a rapid pace.

The relief and rescue operations continued overnight in Chamoli district. Teams of ITBP, NDRF and SDRF are continuously engaged in rescue work. In a short time the Air Force will also be engaged in relief work. The people of Raini village have suffered the most. More than 100 people are being reported missing here. Chamoli Police has also asked people to be vigilant by tweeting.

The administration became active as soon as the news of the destruction came. Directions started coming from all sides including the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Minister. PM Modi has announced two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 each for the seriously injured. While the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has announced a compensation of four lakh rupees to the families of the deceased.

The Army, Airforce are present in rescue operations at this time. ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and police personnel are constantly working on their levels. In Joshimath, Uttarakhand, the Dhauliganga river was flooded due to the breaking of the glacier. Further, it joins Alaknanda and flows to Haridwar as Ganges River. Alert is also issued in Bijnor, UP as a precautionary measure.
