UP government to give Rs 6000 annually to triple talaq victims

Lucknow : Triple talaq has been banned by the Central government but there are many women in the country suffering it whose husbands left them before the law passed. In UP, there are around 7 thousand triple divorce affected women in the state. These victims are women who have either filed FIRs or whose cases are pending in the Family Court. The state government will soon come up with a cabinet proposal to give six thousand rupees to these women.
After the Central Government enacted a law to bring triple talaq under the purview of crime, the State Government established a direct dialogue with these women. In a dialogue program held on 25 September 2019, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a financial assistance of Rs 500 a month for triple divorce victims and abandoned women. According to the announcement, this assistance will continue till women get justice. Its special thing is that unlike other welfare schemes, no income limit has been fixed in it. Only the women victim will be entitled to take advantage of this scheme.
On the government’s directive, data was collected about women suffering from divorces from different districts, so that budget provision could be made on the basis of numbers. According to the report received from the districts, the number of women suffering triple talaq is about 7 thousand. This does not include the women who suffered triple talaq, who, after suffering injustice, sat silent and did not file a complaint anywhere. Officials say that the number of women who do not file complaints may also be large, but it is not easy to trace them. Therefore, in the first phase only women who have filed FIRs or court cases have been included.
Highly placed sources in the Directorate of Minority Welfare say that the proposal is being prepared after estimating the budget. It will be passed by the cabinet soon.
