The process becomes even more complex in such mournful circumstances. As a solution to this problem, Seva Mitra Mandal from Pune’s Shukrawar peth has taken an initiative and provided a free air-conditioned coffin to store the body at home. Seva Mitra Mandal which is one of the premieres and leading Ganesh Utsav Mandal in Pune for its social activities, this facility provided by them is a great boon to all Ganesh devotees cited Mandal’s Shirish Mohite in the press conference today.

The conference also witnessed the presence of Mandal’s Sachin Chavan and Vaibhav Wagh.

Shirish Mohite said that this is an air condition crate (coffin) which can be easily kept at homes. The box is created out of stainless steel material and is available at temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius. The box contains 2 compressors and its foldable making makes it easier to carry at home. The coffin is 7 feet in length, 2.25 feet in width and 3 feet in height.

Sachin Chavan said that many people today have to travel abroad for education or jobs. In case of the deaths of their friends or relatives, it is hard to store the bodies at homes until they reach back to India. Bodies usually start deteriorating after 7-8 hours which makes it even more difficult to store at home. In such a sensitive period, this air-conditioned coffin will allow storing the bodies at home for at least 2 days.

This coffin will be made freely available to the general public through a program held on Friday, 6 pm at Shukrawar Peth’s Seva Mitra Mandal Chowk. Mayor Mukta Tilak, Sassoon’s dean Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, Medical deputy superintendent Dr. Ajay Taware, and many more dignitaries from various fields will be present at the occasion.
