Two held for robbing cash agent at gun point

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) Two persons, who allegedly robbed a cash collection agent of Rs 10 lakh at gun point in north Delhi last month, have been arrested and some of the looted money has been recovered from them, police said on Thursday.

The arrested duo were identified as Kamlesh, 27, of Rajasthan’s Sirohi, and Akash, 26, a resident of Delhi’s Sultan Puri. Police recovered Rs 4 lakh of the robbed money from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northwest, Vijayanta Arya said that the agent had filed a complaint that on July 22, he and his colleague had collected Rs 10 lakh cash from the Kehav Puram area and were going to deliver it to Pitampura, when two armed men stopped them at an underpass and took away the money.

On the basis of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the robbers were identified, the DCP said, adding that Kamlesh was arrested from Sirohi on Wednesday and Rs 3 lakh recovered from him. Acting on his information, Akash was also picked up and Rs 92,000 and a ‘country-made’ pistol recovered from him.

The duo disclosed that they received a random tip off regarding someone carrying money and robbed him. Kamlesh and Akash were found previously involved in six and 14 cases of robbery, respectively. One of their accomplices, Raju, is still at large and efforts are being made to nab him, Arya added.
