Three-year-old girl’s testimony proves crucial; Man sentenced to 21 years’ hard labour for rape

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Crime News | The Special Court sentenced a man to 21 years’ of forced labour and a fine of ₹35,000 for raping a three-year-old girl. The Special Judge, Sripada Ponkshe, delivered the judgement. The convict has been identified as Sagar Arun Chavan (33), a resident of Bhosari. The testimony of the victim has proved crucial in the case. (Pune Crime News)

 

The victim’s mother had lodged a complaint at the Bhosari police station. The police had arrested accused Sagar Chavan in the case. The incident took place on April 11, 2015 at 12.30 pm. Special Public Prosecutor Leena Pathak examined nine witnesses.

 

On the day of the incident, the complainant’s daughter had gone out to play. The complainant was working in her house. At 12.30 pm, her daughter came home crying. When her mother asked her why she was crying, she informed her mother about the accused Sagar’s wrongdoing. The complainant informed her husband about the incident and also told her relatives.

 

The police arrested accused Sagar Chavan after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint. Special Public Prosecutor Leena Pathak demanded maximum punishment for the accused. The girl’s testimony, her mother’s testimony and medical reports proved crucial. The court sentenced Chavan to 21 years’ hard labour and a fine of ₹35,000. The court ordered that the fine amount should be handed over to the victim. The case was investigated by the then API RT Darwade.
