The formula was pretty clear; getting a diploma of D.Ed., get a job and life is sorted. But, the formulae only worked till 2012. This increased the number of people doing D.Ed. in the state. This also increased the number of educational institutes in the state. After giving lakhs of donation one could easily get admission in a D.Ed. College. One could easily get a job with a good salary. But it all changed in 2012.

After the Teacher’s Recruitment stopped in 2012, dreams of many aspiring teachers shattered. It increased the number of unemployed students in the state. Currently, in the state, there are more than five lakh unemployed teachers.

Now, students are not opting for D.Ed. as there are many conditions to qualify for D.Ed. and from 8 years the teacher’s recruitment has been stopped in the state. The result of the exam to qualify for D.Ed. has fallen down to 3 percent. Some students have said that the exams are so tough that only a few students could clear it. This year more than five lakh gave the exam of D.Ed. but as the teachers are getting deprived of recruitments, hence the chance of getting the job has lessened.

The institution giving D.Ed. education has started receiving fewer admissions for the course. The principal of D.Ed. colleges say that D.Ed. colleges are in danger. As no one opted for this course. Many colleges are about to get shut. The safety of the job is also one of the reason.

There are 949 colleges in the state, 102 of these colleges are closed. There are 74 thousand vacancies, whereas only 4000 posts have been recruited this year.

On this teacher’s day, when we talked to some teachers, Akshay Thakre, who is a resident of the village of Watola in Nagpur city of Maharashtra state, said, “I have done B.Ed. in 2012. Due to the recruitment of teachers was stopped I didn’t get any job, I was jobless for a long period of time. My father was a teacher at the government school. After his death, I did not get a teacher’s job even on his compassionate element. I tried for a long time but did not get the job. As a result, today I am forced to do farming in the village.
