Teenager loses 77,213 on online shopping

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE-  With festive season in the air, online shopping websites are on their peak with some amazing offers which also gives rise to various cybercrime. According to a report, every second, one woman in India gets tricked to be a victim of cybercrimes and the online platform is now the new platform where a woman’s dignity, privacy and security is increasingly being challenged every moment. Most of the problems can be solved if women report the crime immediately and warn the abuser/company about taking strong legal action.

Talking about cybercrime an incident came forward after a 21-year-old filed a complaint at Sinhagad Road police station on losing 77,213 while buying a pair of shoes.

According to the complaint filed by the girl, she was buying the shoes from a website. The pair of shoes was worth 1,449 and she paid through online payment mode using her IDBI Bank card. The girl, however, did not receive a confirmation message of the transaction.

Following this, the complainant approached the customer care department, where she was informed that the company will refund the money. Later the customer care person asked her to share her bank details for the refund.

The complainant also shared her mother’s bank details with the customer care person in the hope that she will get her money back. However, the girl soon realised that she has lost 77,213 in total from her and her mother’s bank accounts. The girl later approached the Sinhagad Road police and filed a case.

Police officials are still investigating the issue.
