Taapsee to play Mithali Raj in sports biopic?

NPnews24 Online Mumbai: Actress Taapsee Pannu, who has made a powerful impact in the Bollywood industry with movies like Mulk, PINK and Badla, could essay the role of Cricketer Mithali Raj, in a sports biopic, according to media reports.

According to the report, the biopic is being made on the life of the Indian women’s cricket team captain in One Day Internationals (ODIs) Mithali Raj. Viacom18 had announced the project earlier in 2017.
Taapsee has also played a sportsperson in the movie ‘Soorma’ earlier.

“Taapsee has verbally agreed to do the film, but she is yet to sign the papers. Once a director comes on board, the formalities will be completed. As of now, the script is being developed”, a source told Mumbai Mirror.

Mithali Raj is the highest run-scorer in international women’s cricket.  She is the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in WODIs. She is the first player to score seven consecutive 50s in ODIs.

Mithali Raj also holds the record for most half-centuries in WODIs. In June 2018, during the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup, the cricketer became the first player from India (either male or female) to score 2000 runs in T20Is. She also became the first woman cricketer to reach 2002 WT20I runs.

On February 1, 2019, during India’s series against New Zealand Women, Raj also became the first woman to play in 200 ODI matches. She recently completed 20 years in International cricket.
Taapsee, playing such an inspiring personality, will be a treat for viewers.
