STAY SAFE : Gas Cylinders Also Have An Expiry Date, Know How to Check & Avoid A Big Accident

Mumbai : Do you know that the gas cylinder you are using also has an expiry date? Cylinders coming into your home can be of an expiry date, which is dangerous. So it is important that whenever you take the delivery of a cylinder, you must check its expiry date. Let’s know how.

Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum tag three labels in the LPG cylinders. It mentions the weight of the cylinder on two labels and you’ll see some numbers written on the third label. This is actually the expiry date of the cylinder.

Let’s know how you can check the expiry date of the cylinder.

You must have seen that A-22, B-24 or C-23, D-21 are written on the cylinder strip. These four letters are used to divide months-

– A means from January to March
– B means April to June
– C means July to September
– D means October to December.

The number written after the A, B, C and D digits is the expiry year. That is, if D-22 is written on the strip, then the cylinder will expire in December 2022.

Every LPG gas cylinder has a time limit to use. Cylinder testing is to be done after this period. If the cylinder is not fit for use in testing, it is removed from the market. Testing of any new cylinder has to be done in 10 to 15 years. At the same time, testing of the old cylinder is necessary every five years.

Where the test is done?
The cylinders are tested at the gas cylinder plant. Many times people do not use cylinders for years. In such a situation, it becomes very important to check such cylinders. If the testing is not conducted, a major accident may occur.
