State government’s decision on Uruli Devachi and Fursungi villages hangs in balance: Villages may face serious problems as PMC does not set aside funds for development works in the budget

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune PMC News | Since the state government’s decision on Uruli Devachi and Fursungi hangs in the balance, the villagers are facing a serious problem. Officials said that since the government took the decision to exclude these villages from PMC limits, no funds have been earmarked for these villages in the 2023-24 budget. After the government decision to exclude these villages from PMC, the civic body has stopped development works and facilities. Since the exclusion and setting up of a new municipal council process has not been completed, locals want to know who they should approach with their problems. (Pune PMC News)

The BJP-Sena government had included 11 villages in PMC limits in 2017. The PMC has collected taxes from the residents. Since the tax is more than the tax levied by the gram panchayat, some villagers of Uruli Devachi and Fursungi made a demand to the government that a separate municipal council should be set up for these two villages. The demand made under the leadership of former minister Vijay Shivtare was accepted by CM Eknath Shinde in a meeting. After the decision, the PMC decided to stop the development works which had been started in the area. Some of the works relate to water supply, drainage line, streetlights and roads etc.

As per the state government’s order, the PMC has passed a resolution to the effect and sent it to the state government. However, the state government has not given its final approval for the decision about exclusion of these villages. On the other hand, a large group of citizen is conducting an agitation on the streets and through legal means demanding that the villages should be kept in PMC limits and a concession should be given in the property tax. Hence, the state government is in a dilemma.

Meanwhile, the next civic budget is being prepared after the CM’s decision to exclude the villages from PMC limits. Hence, no development funds have been earmarked for these two villages, according to information provided by civic officials. At the same time, the state government has also not provided adequate funds for carrying out development works. Hence, the villages would have to face serious problems in the future. Villagers allege that the politicians who decided to exclude these villages from civic limits, are keeping mum on the issue.
