Shiv Sena Youth Wing leader murdered in Pune

Pune: The Shiv Sena leader was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries at around 4 am.  A group of unidentified persons in Budhwar Peth, a mid-city area in Pune murdered a local Shiv Sena leader, in the early hours of Friday. The Police are currently investigating the incident. Police said a probe is underway to ascertain the motive behind the killing.

The deceased Deepak Maratkar was the son of former Shiv Sena corporator Vijay Maratkar. Vijay had succumbed to COVID-19 two months ago. Deepak was an office bearer of Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the party. According to Pune City Police, preliminary investigation revealed that four to five persons attacked Deepak near his residence at around 12.30 am and escaped on two-wheelers thereafter.

The case has been filed in Faraskhana Police station. The police stated, the attackers came on motorbikes and some of them assaulted Maratkar with sharp-edged weapons. As he started running, he was attacked by others as per the police. “We suspect political rivalry to be the reason behind the act and three people have been apprehended and our investigation is on,” Further added.

The Faraskhana police have registered a case against eight people for the crime committed at 12.30 am on Friday including Ashwini Kamble and Saraf, the other persons named include Sunny Kolte, Sandeep Kolte, Rohit Kamble and Rahul Srinivas Ragir. Ashwni Kamble and Vijay Maratkar, father of Deepak Maratkar had a political rivalry. The dispute escalated following the elections.

Police have arrested 3 accused and are looking for more attackers. A case has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 143(unlawful assembly) 144 (prohibition of gathering of five or more people), 148(rioting armed with deadly weapon) 149 (unlawful assembly with common intent) and 37(1) (offence constituted by several acts) of the Indian Penal Code.
