Shelter home puts chilli powder on minor girls’ private part as a punishment

DELHI: NP NEWS ONLINE-  Shelter home, a home which someone can rely on and live in if you do not have any other place to live in. But how trustworthy are these shelter homes?

A horrifying incident came up after Representatives of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) have registered a police complaint against a shelter home in the national capital’s Dwarka area. In its complaint, the body has supposed that a few elder girls living at the shelter home were given stringent punishments for disobedient behaviour by staffers.

According to a statement issued by DCW stated that the matter came to light during an inspection of shelter homes in Delhi on 27th December by the commission. Girls between 6-15 years of age told us during the interaction that female staffers at the shelter home put chilli powder in their private parts as punishment as well as forced to consume chilli powder by the staffers.

The girls had become submissive after being subjected to inhumane treatment by shelter home employees. It was also revealed during the interaction that the teenage girls were forced to perform household chores such as cleaning rooms and toilets, washing clothes and utensils and even doing kitchen chores owing to the lack of employees at the shelter home. According another report the girls were beaten with scales for not keeping their rooms clean.

Members of the commission also asserted that the shelter home in question as they only have one cook for 22 girls and staff members, adding that the food being served to the residents was “not good”.

 DCW chief Swati Maliwal reached the home at around 8 pm and informed the Dwarka deputy commissioner of police (DCP) about the allegations. As a result, a case was registered and police personnel along with DCW counsellors have been deputed at the shelter home to ensure the safety of the minor girls.
