Sharad Pawar should lead alliance, UPA needs restructuring : Sanjay Raut

Mumbai : Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) needs to be restructuring and the new alliance should be headed by a senior leader like Sharad Pawar as many regional parties are not ready to work under the leadership of the Congress.

Raut said that the future of this alliance will depend on the sacrifice and generosity of the Congress. He said that there is no longer a National Democratic Alliance in the country as its allies have split. Raut said that similarly, the existence of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is not visible as it has very few parties now.

At the Jayabhim Mahotsav organized by a former councilor in Aurangabad, Raut said, the NDA allies have split up and there is no such alliance now. Similarly, there are very few parties with the UPA. Many regional parties are not willing to work under the leadership of the Congress in the UPA. Therefore, the UPA needs to be re-constituted to form a group against the present government.

He said, “New coalition should be led by a senior leader like Sharad Pawar. If this happens, more parties may join the coalition in the future. But this is not possible without the consent of Congress. The future of the reorganized coalition will depend on the sacrifice and generosity of the Congress.”
