Sambhaji raje Chhatrapati announces fast unto death from February 26 on Maratha reservation issue
Mumbai : NpNews24 Online – Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji raje Chhatrapati announced on Monday that he will go on a fast unto death at Azad Maidan in Mumbai from February 26 to seek reservation for the Maratha community.
He said, “I am not seeking reservation for the Maratha community because I am a Maratha. The reservation was cancelled on May 5, 2021. Many agitations were held but not a single demand has been accepted. I was aggressive but now I have become anxious and distressed. I have been touring the state since 2007 and I came to know that the Maratha community is a deprived class. Hence, I am demanding reservation for the community,’’ he said.
“I have always protected the legacy of Shahu Maharaj and I always carry people with me. We have many times sought reservation which will stay in force. We have also told political leaders why the reservation was lost. The coordinators had told me that I should avoid taking an extreme stand but the state government is not taking any action on the issue. Hence, I am changing my stance. I am going to sit on fast unto death from February 26 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai,’’ he said.
“I had followed up the issue but no solution has been found. I had told the state government to file a review petition after the reservation was cancelled. The state has filed a review petition after a long time. Nothing is known about its status. I think that a committee should be set up to discuss the issue but nothing has been done so far,” he added.
